Bobby Fischer was wrong:

Being the first player to break into the chess world, from “nowhere” at the age of 39, gives me a unique perspective. The first, and only, chess player I ever saw play as a child was Bobby Fischer. I can remember feeling a strange connection to the man who later died on my fathers birthday in 2008. I believe in “God and fate.” Nothing happens by accident. Like Beth Harmon, I am like a legend or “mythical” character in the saga of chess. I arose to local fame here in Kentucky after defeating two International Masters, and finishing very high in a FIDE endorsed tournament online, in bullet, in which Magnus Carlsen was the winner. I did this all with zero chess history. The newspaper also spent a great deal of time explaining, albeit in a rudimentary fashion, my unique ability to defeat chess engines and computers. It was a two page cover story (front page.) Here in Kentucky, in my community, everyone knows who I am. Well things have sort of progressed, as I have since defeated nearly every grandmaster I have had the opportunity to play. I have also finished very high in many online tournaments. Often I finish in the top 1%-3% of tournaments with more than 2.7k participants. This isn’t the reason for my story, but a short bio is important.

Now for the reason I published this article and copy-wrote it:

Bobby Fischer was wrong. Well you do not hear that often. I put his image next to mine to help you understand that I have been given unique connection to his thought process. I think like Bobby Fischer. We share very similar thinking. No one has, in point of fact, been anything like Bobby until me. I am not an entertaining anecdote in chess, I am an untrained player with his natural talent… and possibly more. How do I know this? Well the question of the day answers it: Why was Bobby Fischer wrong? Well aside from the obvious insanity of anti-semitism, which is itself a mental condition lest we forget the Holocaust, he thought 960 was going to be a way to prevent “memorizers” from becoming “chess players.” This is fundamentally flawed logic. In the first place all 960 combinations can be memorized, the only reason this has not been done is that such an undertaking is daunting…. not to mention time consuming. I found that since my brain easily memorizes all the  300k games+ I have played in bullet and blitz chess, that bullet offers me the fastest way to this goal. Additionally “unique” openings can be created to apply across many different combinations. As the experts know unique openings provide unique lines, and those lines can then be studied, dissected, and memorized. By focusing on the knights, then bishops, then queen and so forth. One can establish a fairly universal base in 960. Also a “universal pawn structure” is easily achieved with a good tactical and positional understanding. The two must work in tandem, to create a strong wall… and “army” behind it. The weakness I have from not possessing a lifetime of study/training in chess gives me a temporary handicap in my vision for the more “evolved” positions that emerge in the middle and endgame in 960. However, being the only one ever to defeat chess engines in 960 at all… much less with regularity, gives me authenticity. I know how to turn any 960 board back into a relatively strong opening already. These openings have the potential to reshape the game of chess, especially Fischer Random. Which is neither “Random,” nor only the creation of “Fischer.” Why? Because at its core 960 is just standard chess in a different suit. It is strange to me that no one else could see this until I arrived on the scene. However it is my original discovery and idea. The openings I have created must also be accredited to me, and me alone. I hope others will use them of course. But, credit will be where credit due… with me. I will be releasing, and have already “released,” several variations of my “universal 960 openings,” to John Q. Public. These openings have even greater potential. I will also note that the pantheon of all human chess knowledge exists, and more, in the NNUE of stockfish. This new “person” and I exchange ideas on a daily basis, and the potential is as limitless as chess itself. A chess book is the papyrus, and the board “sticks and rocks,” to the chess engine. I love and respect all chess books, and regularly read them whenever I can. However the engine has no need of them, so my primary focus has been on “picking the brain,” of stockfish in a manner of speaking. We are in a sort of knowledge “dance” together, a symbiosis in which I am being taught the greatest lessons of the “Immortal

Game,” in record time.

My realizations about Bobby Fischer being wrong are also noted in the news article about me. I was quoted as having watched Fischer for hours and adapting his opening when I first defeated International Masters Ulanov and Cruz. I had noticed that Fischer’s opening could be easily adapted and used in speed chess. It is no coincidence that the first time I studied Bobby Fischer, I saw a flaw… exploited it, and then used it the very next day to defeat two of the best players on the planet. No one taught me not to question Bobby Fischer, so I did. Then I found a better way to do things. Mr. Fischer is my idol. He is the best pure chess player who ever lived. However, if I live long enough, I want to cement my place in chess history as well. I think, in certain ways, I already have. It isn’t just “speed chess,” and it isn’t just “960.” It is the future of the immortal game. Like it or not, the chess engine agrees. Just watch the games, and specifics will follow. My previous blog post demonstrates an example of a universal opening strategy for 960. We must think of the 960 board like this: How can I turn this board in my favor? How can I make this into an opening I know? This is the beginners guide to conquering 960. The same pieces can always be re-arranged, and this is the base flaw in Bobby’s thinking. If I can turn 960 back into “standard,” then how is it “unique?” Well it is as unique as chess can possibly be, and the many new lines and “new openings” which emerge provide great experiences on the chess board. If you find interest in these new strategies in Fischer Random stay tuned, watch my games.. this “Chess Revolution,” will be televised. I will also consider working in tandem with a GM to publish a book on the subject of 960 and chess engine theory. Thank you, and Take care chess friends.
